Salad Days for Radish & Beetroot
Pacific v Parkfield and Headstone CC at Broxbourne Sports Club  Sun 05-Sep-2004 at 1.30pm
Won by 3 runs

The Burly Brothers - Marcel Boonaert and Kurt Rademaker - were the stars for Pacific as the team held on for a much needed win in a frantic last few overs. Earlier only stocky South African Boonaert with 88 and burly Aussie Rademaker with 63 had reached double figures in an otherwise insipid batting effort. From 40 for 4 - their dominant 144-run fifth wicket stand changed the course of the match.

In the end Headstone needed 14 to win from the final over - with star batsman Willis (115*) at the crease having just past his century. Veteran skipper Nigel Wilkinson called up bowling legend John Baglivi to take on the task - and with the fourth delivery sailing comfortably over the nearby river - only 5 were needed from 2 balls. Baglivi responded well - almost holding a sharp return chance from the penultimate ball - with the single taken four were needed to tie or six to win. However it brought the new batsman was onto strike to face the decisive ball. Baglivi kept his head - there was a swing and a miss - and a scampered bye through to the keeper was never going to be enough. Pacific had won a thrilling limited overs encounter.

Pacific 215 for 9 from 40 overs (Marcel Boonaert 88, Kurt Rademaker 63)

XI v Headstone are:- John Baglivi, Rob Bastin+, Marcel Boonaert, Jim Davies, John Hill, Peter Hollman, Allan Roberts, Kurt Rademaker, Nigel Wilkinson*, Vaibhav Puri, & Stuart Mullin.
