Jones has his day
Pacific v Bayshill at Away  Mon 23 Jun 1997
Won by 45 runs
Friendly fixture

Set in the lap of the Malverns near Cheltenham, Pacific had a great record against a side who had yet to win this season.

P : 141-8 dec. C Jones 61. Washbourne 13-5-24-4
B : 96-9 (all out). J Leplain 21 P Hollman 6-2-22-4

Inserted on a seamers pitch, the surprise was that any game went ahead with the amount of rain that fell that weekend. Slow & steady play was the requisite approach & despite the loss of Ian Lay & Hugh Reid for ducks, the slow progress was accelerated upon by Craig Jones who made 61 with a match winning innings.

Craig knew it was his day though, as he was not only dropped but marked his half century with a 6 as the fielder took the catch but failed to remain within the boundary. Off spinner Washbourne was the pick of the bowlers with 4-24 off 13 showing good control.

John Baglivi back to bowling his quick seam up had the batsmen hopping & picked up 2 wickets in the process. Frank Baglivi then tied up the batsmen with his own brand of spin & guile picking up 2-22 himself after a period where Bayshill had accelerated, in particular, left hander julian Laplain who selected his shots carefully.

The major break through came from medium pacer Hollman backed up by superb close catching from Frank Baglivi & Craig Jones including the dismissal of Laplain 21. With Darryl Roberts picking up a tail ender, Saunders, to a great catch by Steve Lay at gully, the final say went to Craig Jones who took another superb 1 handed catch to dismiss Woodward beaten in the flight by Frank Baglivi.

A great game for Craig to sign off on as he will be missed indeed as he embarks on a 6 week trip to Pakistan & India.
