Murray falls short
Pacific v Broxbourne at Broxbourne Sports Club  Mon 26-May-1997
Drawn

Nigel Wilkinson won the toss & opted to bat although John Baglivi who had made 48 last week was out for 2 (4-1).

P : 223-4 dec. D Murray 96, L Faisal 41, T Mileham 27. Hughes 13-2-68-2
B : 197-9. Astin 45. J Baglivi 7-0-28-3

Another contribution from Jon Hardisty (21) & the stage was set for the innings of the day. David Murray who prefers a bouncy track played very well & Hughes, the left arm seamer, could only rue a dropped catch at 1st slip when David was on 11.But he came back well to claim 2-68. David meanwhile went on & on & having made a club record of 157 last season, he was short odds to notch up another 100 before being caught at short cover on 96 playing early & without following the shot through. A surprise in itself as his timing had been impeccable & was especially strong cutting & driving.

Quick runs from Tim Mileham & Lucius Faisal off 38 balls & Nigel declared.Frank Baglivi's canny off spin opened the bowling complementing Mike Alexander's efforts with the extra bounce & the only surprise was that 75 was on the board before the 1st wicket fell - to John Baglivi's leg spin thanks to a fine catch at deep mid-wicket by Lucius to dismiss Dyer (22). The left hander Astin scored fluently & Jones (40) continued the assault.

John Baglivi continued to wheel away & picked up 2 more wickets, but it was Tim Mileham's lightening hot keeping who impressed with 2 stumpings & a run out. Broxbourne continued the chase with Hughes (31) , wickets continued to fall & 8 balls were available to obtain a deserved win. Mills held out & an exciting encounter concluded.
