Close But No Cigar - Again!
Pacific v Crossbats at Moor Mead  Sat 04 Oct 2003 at 12 noon
Lost By 1 Run
Friendly fixture

Pacific fell short by the smallest of margins for the second time this season agonisingly failing by just one run to overhaul Crossbats target of 211 in a 35 over game.

Despite excellent bowling from Rob Allum (7 overs for 25) and Mike Alexander (7 overs 1 for 35) Pacific faced a target of just over 6 an over thanks to a classy unbeaten 64 from Alan Carter.

After a difficult start reaching 30 for the loss of 3 wickets in the first ten overs Pacific looked on course for victory as Miles Picknett (80) and Jim Davies (59) added 145 for the fourth wicket in good time.

Despite a subsequent stand of 30 between Picknett and John Hill (12) Pacific failed to get over the line when they needed only 12 to win from the final two overs - with 6 wickets in hand. Matt Holliday just failing with a desperate dash to make a second run needed to tie the game from the last ball.

Crossbats 211 for 5 from 35 overs (Alan Carter 64*, Collier 33, Jim Davies 3-55)

Pacific 210 for 7 from 35 overs (Miles Picknett 80, Jim Davies 59, Clive Lawrence 2-23)

MOM - Miles Picknett - a classy innings of 80 nearly saw the side home.

Packing the Kit - Craig Jones - arrived very late and missed out with the bat.

Stato Corner - the 29 conceded by Collier in an over matches the most ever scored by Pacific off a single over.

The 145 run stand between Miles Picknett and Jim Davies is the second-highest ever for the 4th wicket for the club.

XI:Mike Alexander, Jim Davies, Peter Hollman, Matt Holliday, Craig Jones, Rob Allum, Rob Bastin, Oliver Haill, Joe Phelan, Miles Picknett, John Hill
