On the 6th meeting, Pacific finally came out on top for the first time.
VPCCL skipper Mutz having lost the toss was asked to bat with JD and Tristan up top for the midweek Pacificos.
A solid start from the pair put on 50 runs but they both fell in quick succession bringing Faisal and Rizwan to the crease. With a very slow outfield and a damp pitch, boundaries were difficult and both took time to get in. Faisal in his first year at Victoria Park couldn't come to terms with the conditions to play his normal expansive game but diligently rotated strike. Rizwan in his 23rd year at Victoria Park brought his experience to bear to eventually unload ( reaching his 50 off 25 balls and retiring in the 15th over ) on the very competent MUFG attack to post a reasonable but below par score of 140.
To summarise the innings break chat ....bowl straight , limit wides to a minimum and it will not be easy to chase with an old ball and diminishing light.
mmmm.....we bowled 32 wides
Pacific got off to a cracking start with Simon cleaning up the MUFG unit second ball and he continued his spell unchanged to finish with creditable figures of 4-0-27-2. Harry could not quite locate his GPS but when he did the opposition was often in trouble. Alex as first change picked up a key wicket but MUFG were never more than needing around 7-8 per over. With 30 needed off the final four overs JD got the crucial wicket of the opposition captain , brilliantly stumped by Mutz and only conceded 4 runs, with Rizwan backing him up with his over going for 7 runs. JD again bowled a brilliant penultimate over ( always the key over defending ), Riz was defending 12 off the final over with the returning unretired No 3 back on strike. With 5 needed off the final ball he top edged an attempted 6 to Tristan at square leg who took a stunning catch about 15 yards in from the rope to complete a famous first victory against MUFG.
