Rain washed out any chance of a positive result as the match was abandoned halfway through the afternoon.
Pacific 137-6. (O Haill 38*, L Yates 37. J Ward 14-2-31-2.)
UCS did not bat.
A 71 minute delay due to a damp pitch was compounded by a particularly heavy shower at 3.29pm. Either side of lunch P made heavy going scoring at under 3 an over. In fact this was only possible by chances awarded to Leon Yates (dropped 4 times) & Oli Haill dropped twice. However, even this was to be academic because the rain curtailed events & the match was eventually called off at 4.45pm.
Earlier both Captains were eager to win the toss & unleash their respective bowling armoury on a juice laden pitch. Nick Ward for UCS won the toss & soon stand in opener Colin Black's (1) early dismissal bowled by Jamie Ward had P at 4-1. P's innings laboured on with Yates & Hollman (11), unable to punish the looser leg side stuff before Hollman caught a leading edge spooning one such to keeper Garfunkel to give Jamie Ward the 2nd of his 2 wickets. Boonaert (14) did well but despatching Jamie Ward for a huge 6 over mid wicket before he was bowled by Sartor shortly before lunch.
After lunch, Yates continued his rebuilding with Rob Bastin (11) before the latter also spooned one up to backward square. Rees (5) looked in good touch before being adjudged lbw despite being well forward (Shayned?! The biter bit? ) to give spinner Nick Ward his 2nd wicket. As the pitch continued to dry out as strong pre storm winds blew across, Haill & Yates put on 30 for the 6th wicket followed by Haill & Jones (7*) putting on an unbroken 29 as they sought to increase the run rate leading up to tea. Left hander Haill in his highest innings for the club was particularly strong pulling the shorter ball for boundaries at backward square & in one over scoring 3 consecutive 4s including all run 4 through extra cover.
Sadly for UCS the drops may have extended the innings longer than they would have liked but it is doubtful even then whether enough time were available for them to successfully chase a similar total.
The teams reconvene in Oxford when Pacific seek to retain the Lindridge McDougall memorial Trophy in August.
