For those of you who don’t know, the Pacific CC Golf Tournament was one of the longest social comps we’ve had in place & started in 1990 with as casual a comp as you can imagine over in Richmond Park. Slowly as the years went by more of our players played both sports but this has since rescinded & the only regular cricketer who turned out, once, was Toby.
So with mainly just die hard golfers in tow, we play some tastier upmarket places & Herewood Downs definitely qualifies. Dave “Harry” Bassett was sitting next to us after a previous round there.
The build up was haphazard with Covid-19 to blame & our previous winner, Adrian Duthie’s preferred choice bumping societies back along the calendar. More toing & froing of dates & we lost more participants to work commitments. The troubled build continued when 5 times winner Darryl Roberts withdrew citing a back injury & we even lost defending champ Adrian Duthie at the halfway stage withdrawing due to Migraine & flu symptoms. The former probably caused by everyone asking if he’d lost his sense of taste & smell. “I can still smell you Tony was one riposte”.
So to the action, we play both for handicap & scratch titles & our youngest player won both maiden titles with an impressive score of 90 & must now chose where & when we play in 2021.
Any newcomers in the club who can wield a club are most welcome & feel free to WhatsApp me.
