Pacific CC Tour of Cambridgeshire
Tour Cancelled due to rain & waterlogged pitches.
Pacific's Final tour of the year to 2 adjacent villages 20 miles South of Newmarket, was cancelled at the last minute when the heavy overnight downpours which had left London by the Saturday morning were still in progress an hour before the match against Weston Colville was due to start. balsham's Captain, Graham Clarkson, who had been hopeful that were it to have stopped when orginally forecats, their pitch may have been prepared & ready, but admitted that this would now no longer be the case, so the tour party accepted defeat against the elements & having lost their hotel deposits, returned to London. One note of commiseration has to be made to Captain, Steve Lay. He spent the week worrying about the effect of the fuel shortage, & contingency plans were made & changed on a daily basis, only to be outdone at Weston Colville's doorstep. Pacific's next fixture will now be this Saturday's match against Flying Wickets as the Club return to their Islington roots.
On a brighter note, I am entirely happy to report that I was unable to accompany the tour because I was with my wife in Whittington Hospital as she gave birth to our 1st child on Saturday morning at 11.04am. A baby boy we have named Luke weighing in at 8lbs 8ozs. I never find cause to normally celebrate the end of the 1st class season, especially with Middlesex's efforts this year, but in this instance, I am overjoyed to make an exception.
