Pacific v New Barbarian Weasals at Kings College Sports Ground  Sat 02 Sep 2000
Friendly fixture

For the 2nd week in succession, P found themselves in the Kingston/Wimbledon area, this time for the return fixture against Weasals who were keen to avenge their defeat earlier in the season in the reverse fixture.

NBW: 148-3 dec. Groves-Loader 49* M Alexander 20-2-57-2
P: 0-0

A threatening forecast & a well prepared pitch saw W bat 1st after winning the toss. The vast array of current injuries & unavailabilities saw P go into the match with just 1 recognised bowler, as well giving debuts to 4 players :- 11 year old twins from Malden Wanderers colts - Tomas & Finn Galvin, 15 year old Ted Szuman & 30 year old Colin Pettet (ex Merryl Lynch CC).

Needs must, & Mike Alexander equalled the club record of most overs bowled in an innings with an unbroken spell of 20, set by Allan Roberts v UCS Old Boys in a 2 day game 20-21/7/91. The batsmen were cautious & the 1st wicket did not fall until the score was 55 when John Bishop (24) was caught by keeper Paul Attwood bowled by Alexander. A 2nd success for Mike came 2 overs later when he removed the other opener, left hander Tattersdill (24) lbw with one that stayed a little lower.

Matt Patel who bowled his best spell this season was rewarded with the removal of Steve Eastway (4) clean bowled, but that was to prove P's last success as Groves Loader (49*) & Hurley (15*) took the score from 80 to 148 when the rain fell & an early tea was taken. Although a fair declaration was made by Captain Gary Lynch given the lengthy break, P's openers, Green & Hollman, did not have to face a single ball, as a 2nd longer & heavier shower put paid to the day's proceedings & the Captains shook hands on a draw.
