Successful J Roy Return - Rajku Regal
Pacific v Victoria Lounge at Victoria Park Pitch 2  Thu 07 Jun 2018 at 7pm
Won by 6 wickets
Victoria Park Community Cricket League fixture

1st game in Division 2 season

On a very muggy and overcast evening, the Pacific VIII assembled  slightly disconcerted that weekend sometimer Riz Siddiqui would be in oppostion alongside Tim Garrett for Viccy Lounge. However the quality of the Pacific VIII was boosted by Paul Rajkumar and one-time midweek skipper Justin Roy who had bought along his rather useful nephew from South Africa, Alex.

Viccy Lounge won the toss and batted first with Timbadia temporarily lost in action. With Timbadia finally locating the right pitch we were ready to go. Apart from a tidy first over from Alex at considerable pace, the Lounge made a decent enough start. However Shaz made a very good contirubtion with the ball with 2 wickets in his spell and helped stem the advance, even though is 2nd and Pacific's 3rd brought Riz to the crease. Riz would show some of his explosive power hitting with a typically brutal 29 ball 53 and he would take the Lounge to 144 a stiff target in fading light and giving brother Mutz a bit of stick on the way. Mutz at this point was chuntering and wondering if Pacific's chances were going to disappear as the light was beginning to fade.

Mutz however would show his own managerial skills with the top loading of the batting order and Paul Rajkumar and Justin Roy giving Pacific a very strong power base. And how, Rajku combined power with a fair bit of grace with some superbly timed strokes pinging off the bat and the returning Roy would find a few sturdy blows, combined with the occasional more streakily earned run powering him to a very productive return. it was boundaries galore as the opening partnership took apart a lively opening pair in Gary and Rob and then set to work on Tim Garrett too. Tim would eventually have the last laugh on Justin who seemed to run out of a bit of steam and perished with a top edge going high into the sky and comfortably pouched. This brough Mutz to the crease and some finely channeled anger at the darkness produced his own reaction as he eased his way to 23 off 13 balls with a sarcastic comment from Riz about it being too dark (brotherly love eh!). With Rajku having completed a beautfully constructed 51 off 26 balls it was left to Alex and Mutz to get us across the line and Alex repaid the faith shown by uncle Justin to leave Pacific victorious.

Well done to all who played and we look forward to doing it all again in a couple of weeks time.
