Pacific had to curse their luck again as for the 2nd morning running, late withdrawals to injury had to be coped with again.
TB: 208-9 (Sartoretti 63, McIlwaine 50*, N. Wilkinson 14 1 55 3, C. O'Grady 11 1 57 3)
Pacific: 135-4 (P. Hollman 50, S. Lay 37*, Sartoretti 9 4 7 3)
On a good track & quick outfield the batters seemed to have more problems with a plague of flying ants that disrupted the play for several minutes, but to be fair, the bowling attack which was missing all the regular front line bowlers, stepped in admirably lead by a great spell from Jim Davies (2-38) who is really proving himself as a treasured close season acquisition.
Unfortunately, mostly excellent ground fielding was not backed up with catches & half a dozen went to ground although Matt Holiday held a blinder at 1st slip to dismiss Saggers. Captain Sartoretti was obviously distracted by the drinks interval & he was out 1st ball afterwards to O'Grady playing onto his stumps. Captain Nigel Wilkinson, himself back from back injury, bowled usefully with swing & away seam movement & despite Tom McIlwain's unbeaten 50 (he was credited with 100s in 99 & 98) Wilkinson was pleased to have restricted TB to their lowest total against Pacific.
High hopes of a maiden win however, were dispelled when the quick fire opening partnership of 34 between Ian Lay (14) & Peter Hollman (50) was broken with Lay caught at point by Saggers. Hollman & Steve lay kept their side well within distance , Hollman reaching another half century (in consecutive days) but the introduction of Sartoretti of himself was also the introduction of an equally quick bowler but one who could move the old ball back up the slope. Hollman fell to fine catch at 1st slip in Sartoretti's 2nd over with still 21 overs to go. The rapid dismissals of both Joe Bennett (2) & Matt Holliday (0) to the same man saw Pacific effectively 6 down & with 8 an over required & the absence of any further bowling inducement, the game frittered out into a draw & Theydon consolidating their record of played 5, won 1 drawn 4.
