Rajku almost seals victory
Pacific v Mad Moraccas at Victoria Park Pitch 3  Wed 16 May 2018 at 6pm

Victoria Park Community Cricket League fixture

On a fairly nippy evening at Victoria Park, the assembled Pacific VIII found themselves losing the toss and bowling first against Mad Moraccas. It is fair to say that they got off to a flier with NELCL Chairman Edgar Madicott opening partner Jack clicking into gear very quickly. The warning signs were there that it could be a very long 16 overs for the boys, but first change Sam Howes would put have a very fine evening with the ball and would dismiss Edgar for 30. Jack would go on to complete his 50 and retire and at that point the breaks were put on, not only through Sam’s continued fine spell (2-29) but from Mutz too, with a combative mix of probing swing.

There was a fine all round performance in the field too with many players including new boy Tom Melville covering plenty of ground on the largest of the Viccy Park outfields in pitch 3. Mutz, I think seemed to cover a half marathon and was relieved that Greg Ayre would take over his last over. Jaime Hargreaves would bowl a fine couple of closing overs too as the Moraccas would close on 149.

In response Paul Rajkumar would play a very fluent knock in getting Pacific’s reply on the road but he didn’t receive quite enough support until Mutz joined him at the crease. Once they got together we dared to dream. However his retirement on 50 meant there needed to be some proactive swinging to ensure that we either got near the target or that we would get out to get Paul back in. This happened and Mutz and Korgaonkar decided some aggressive running for 1s and 2s was the order of the day. Korgaonkar had a couple of scares in between utterly smacking a rather untypical straight drive for 4 before departing run-out and soon Rajku was back at the crease. With around 3 overs to go, the game was still in the balance but there wasn’t quite enough momentum here with some decent death bowling meaning Pacific finished 17 short of their target on 133.

A rather long evening for several members of the team in the bar with a guest appearance from Mr Tim Garrett in his guise as a Victoria Lounge player and also from Giaco Bridgett. So a fabulous perforamce from Mr Rajku and fine efforts from Mutz in all 3 disciplines and Sam with the ball in particular. If we'd had one more decent batting contribution then I think we might have done it, but hey ho a decent effort and role on Monday!
If you fancy joining in the fun for midweekers then give AK a shout!
