Pacific never looked in it against Highgate CC, as the hosts raced to 100 off the first 10 overs.
Some accurate stuff from new man Ormesher and "turniquet" Ahmed stemmed the flow, although PCC couldn't prevent Highgate from climbing to 313 off the full allocation of 45 overs. Pacific legend T Chasseaud, our club captain and 12th man for the day, pitched in for Highgate at no. 11 and made 12 not out - although sadly the N.O. won't count towards his batting figures. The day's champagne moment came courtesy of Aroon. After procuring a runnout with some razor-sharp fielding, the gentle giant took on the appearance of an unruly rhino as he charged towards the celebratory huddle.
As we've come to expect from Highgate, tea was a magnificent spread including various Thai curry dishes as well as sausage sandwiches.
Jay Lakhani opened up after the break, putting on an impressive 59 as many around him crumbled. Burnham and Riz Siddiqui got 20 each, although no one else managed to break into double figures. In truth, openers Burnham and Lakhani were unable to score at a fast enough rate to leave us with a realistic chance of of avereging the required 7ish an over at the end of 45. We made it to 177 (thanks in no small part to 40 extras) - but we were never really in it. Chasseaud bagged a 4-fer.
Despite the PCC being somewhat uncompetitive (perhaps due to some key players being unavailable having played in our NELL fixture the day before), it was an excellent, friendly game of Bank Holiday cricket, played in good spirits and at a great ground with good facilities. The weather was also very good. Post match refreshments were enjoyed with assorted friends of the club and Highgate luminaries. Let's keep this fixture and give them a better match next year.
