Aroon signs off with final midweeker
Pacific v Mad Moraccas at Victoria Park Pitch 1  Mon 07-Aug-2017 at 6.30pm
Lost

It was really a bit of a desperate last-minute attempt to get another number given that we essentially had three pull-outs on the day and I would have been ninth man.

Anyway the six of us – Jamie H, Greg, Michael, Paul D, Mutz and myself – were joined by Dean whom the oppo skipper Robbie kindly lent us so we could have a 7 v 7 game. I would like to point out my thanks to Robbie for being a real help in both giving us clarity re last week’s cancelled fixture and the opportunity to get a game in yesterday.

We won the toss and batted and had a steady start with Michael and Mutz having to deal with some pretty good bowling early on with the extra bounce on pitch one. Once the opening bowlers were replaced runs started to flow, with Michael playing some lovely straight hits down the ground and Mutz cutting and pulling his way. Michael would fall only a few runs short of his fifty and Mutz would make his fifty with a couple of overs to spare. Jaime would hit a couple of lusty blows as we reached 127. It should be said that very overcast conditions with the odd spots of rain meant that the light wasn’t great for much of the game.

In response, the opposition openers looked more than a bit handy but tidy bowling by Greg and Jaime reap rewards with a hesitant single called and Greg throwing down the stumps. He backs this up by getting two wickets in a row in the next over he bowls and we wonder if a famous and very comfortable victory is in the offing. Paul backs up Greg with a couple of wickets and it is down to the last pair. However, it is clear that Mad Morrocas have held a couple of their batsmen back as they consolidate and then counter attack. The bowling is switched around to try and stem the flow but by this stage they have the bit between their teeth. Jaime and Greg are brought back to try and finish the game off but this does not work and yours truly comes on for the 15th over with 10 left to win. Despite a good start I then get hit for thee fours and it is game over.

We are done for the season in midweek terms now. I am committed to continuing on this team for next year although we could do with one or two more players being regular attendees.

Report by Aroon – and well done to him for raising a side each week. Hopefully we can support him a bit better next season.

This was a friendly fixture after last Wednesday's league match against Mad Moroccas fell victim to wet weather
