The 2000 Cricket Season failed to get going in Islington last Saturday. Islingtonıs last cricket team who continue to play regularly within the borough saw their traditional curtain raiser washed out as the Wray Crescent ground resembled a paddy field on Saturday morning.
The Pacific Seniors v Juniors 40 over match had to be abandoned without a ball being bowled for only the second time in the clubıs 20 year history. Club Secretary & Seniors Captain, Peter Hollman was concerned as this cancellation leaves the players desperately underprepared. We scrapped the pre season single wicket a few years ago, last weeks outdoor practice had to be cancelled, & nets have not been as well attended as in the past. We have 2 fixtures next weekend including an inaugral fixture against a useful Gracies team who lost just 1 match last year & this doesnıt help.
