A heart warming triumph on a blustery wet day at the lovely village of Aldenham. Skipper Nuggsy acquired the Charlie (Aldenham kindly lent us a player), won the toss and fielded. On the small outfield at Aldenham that is ready made for six hitting Aldenham cruised to 202/2 as Nuggsy rotated the poor suffering bowlers regularly to ensure almost everyone got a go. The catching was a little ropey on occasion but Charlie did a superb job keeping us going with his chatter whilst keeping. Aldenham seemed to a bit bored with smashing the ball and switch hitting and very sportingly declared half an hour earlier than expected.
A fine tea was readily demolished without much optimism.
Steve and Nuggsy (no abuse of captaincy at all!) laid the foundation with a steady opening partnership. Nuggsy was unlucky to be caught by first slip via second slip's ankle. Charlie and Oli partnership was always going to be key and they added 50 odd before Oli chipped to mid on. Giaco fell second ball (replay of the previous chip to mid on). Shaz then joined Charlie and soon survived a controversial moment re a ball hit back to the bowler for a c&b - was it a bump ball? - to huge displeasure of the Aldenham keeper (Charlie's dad). Shaz then proceeded to use the ensuing sledging as perfect motivation to smash the bowling round the park (one particularly impressive six over mid on) for 32. However, Shaz perished to deep mid on, Raj went first ball (hangover from Thursday!!) and then Charlie, having nearly taken the cover fielder's hand off with one shot and held the innings together superbly, chipped to midwicket. This left us with about 25 to win and the tail in. Well it was not much of a tail as Stacey blazed the way to victory as Aldenham, some players still chuntering over the Shaz decision, rather lost their way.
Victory was happily celebrated in the neighbouring pub with the Aldenham lads as they prepared for a stag night.
