Old Eastcotians 140-10
Pacific 141-9 win in final over!
An enthralling game that was principally a tale of wides and last wicket partnerships. An overcast and lush Wray Crescent with a locked pavilion greeted both teams. Much lobbying of the skipper to bat proved to be to no avail as the opposition won the toss and decided to bat.
Krishna and Tom bowled super opening spells that really tested the Eastcotian top order. Krishna's pace was too much and Tom swung it beautifully. Rohan bowled very useful away swing on debut but also managed to conk a batsman on the head with a beamer unfortunately. Rajesh and Chris were rusty and chief contributors to the almost record wide count. Skipper Nuggsy took two wickets in his first over and bowled tidily, although he did drop a slip catch. Pacific always looked on top and likely to prove the batsmen (see earlier) right in keeping the oppo to 90 but the last pair wagged defiantly to add 49 before Krishna comprehensively bowled the No 11. Extras top scored with 50! Aditya was very good behind the stumps on debut and Steve provided much needed vocal encouragement from first slip. Credit to the Old Eastcotian batsmen for walking.
A good tea chiefly from the new Tesco was slowly munched.
The aforementioned batting lobby then achieved a grand total of 37 between them. They all seemed to choose the right shot but the execution wasn't quite there. This left the skipper to come in at 43/5. He duly dropped anchor and showed that at least someone is learning from Chanderpaul (and ran like Inzy). However, before he gets too big a head, it is worth noting that he was dropped quite early on. Rohan and then Rajesh provided the impetus to edge us towards victory whilst the Eastcotian change bowlers delivered an equally staggering number of wides as we did. Still, Tom walked in to join Nuggsy at 116/9 and Tom demonstrated he really should have been in the top order, with a composed 12* under pressure, to win the game in the last over.
