Arse And Wangered
Pacific v Crossbats at Wray Crescent  Sat 09-Oct-2010 at 12 noon
Lost 5 wickets

A good game that escaped our grasp through a disappointing batting performance, a couple of shelled catches and a good 6th wicket partnership for Crossbats. Skip Tempany won the toss at an overcast, damp Wray Crescent and opted to bat in his last game as skip for the club before returning to Oz.

Pete Hollman fell early giving gully catching practice but Webley and Toby seemed to be giving us a good base at 35/1. However, wickets soon fell as batsmen perished giving catching practice mainly to gully. Dunbar bowled really well. Roy was the only batsman who made the aggressive approach work scoring 43 including a couple of super lofted shots. Only Smith got out to a good ball (edged to slip). The Skip fell first ball unfortunately.

After a pedestrianly taken tea Crossbats batted. An early ball change was needed as the ball supplied by Crossbats was too light and poor quality. Allum and Gleadow (after a full toss ridden start) bowled good spells. Both got vital wickets Gleadow got Dunbar bowled (broke the bail) and Allum got Winch with a full toss hit low to a swooping skip at mid off. There was a strange run out where the ball was bunted to cow Abhi chased and stopped it but the Stig threw it in as one of the bats went for a second run - the ball sailed over non-strikers to Toby at cover whilst two batsmen were at the non-strikers. Toby calmly lobbed the ball to keeper Roy to affect the run out. Roy kept very well.

Unfortunately Smith at mid on dropped Arse off a Gleadow full toss and then Lahrie dropped Fraser at wide fine leg off the skip (having just been placed there). Those two then batted well to steer Crossbats home despite testing spells by Smith and Webley.
