A fine display of hitting late in the Hackney Falcons innings - coupled with fine bowling from Abassi (1-18) and Baba (3-13) ended Pacific hopes of a league and cup double.
Hackney Falcons 161-4 (D Roberts 1-21, L Faisal 1-26)
Pacific 127 for 6 (J Davies 55, T Marshall 36)
Despite excellent opening spells from Darryl Roberts and Lucius Faisal - Hackney Falcons reached the biggest total set this year against Pacific. The usually reliable "death bowling" pair of Jim Davies and Jonathan Campbell came in for some heavy punishment - conceding 45 and 46 runs respectively in their 4 over spells.
Although Pacific got off to a good start at 10 an over for the first 4 overs - the middle order could not keep up the tempo against accurate bowling from left-arm spinner Baba and left-arm seamer Abassi. Even though Davies scored his 55 from only 31 balls - and Tim Marshall 36 from 22 - the rest of a seemingly strong batting line-up perished cheaply. The needless run out of Marshall when going well was perhaps the pivotal moment in the game.
"I'm gutted!" said disappointed skipper Jonathan Campbell. "The total was much more than they looked like getting at halfway - but was still gettable. Their spinner bowled well in the middle of the innings and that finished us off. Hats off to them for playing so well!" he concluded.
