Great spirit tight exciting game that went to the wire. Imposing opening stand for London Fields between Robin & Alex, who were 60-0 off 5 overs but Shayne Rees caught the former at deep mid wicket & a 1 foot either way & Robin would have retired & been able go come back later.
As it was London Fields collapsed impressively thanks to offie Sammy Purcell's 5 wickets.
Still it was a defendable total & Field's Tyrone's impressive spell of 4 overs for only 16 runs meant that Pacific needed 126 from the other 12 overs - which they achieved thanks to Hollman's 27, Webley's 34, but especially Captain Shayne Rees's 37 not out off 18 balls, leading from the front.
It was indeed a great game & with his proud mother watching, captain Shayne Rees won the game with sensible strategy, quality catching, workmanlike bowling but match-winning batting.
Sammy Purcell picked up a rare VPL pfeiffer, & the catching was beyond criticism, led by Shayne himself.
London Fields' batsman Robin looked like he'd taken the game beyond Pacific but Sammy lead the fight back well - himself being watched by mother & brother.
LF must have been kicking themselves after failing to capitalise on a fantastic platform by Robin but wickets fell quickly & LF failed to use up their overs being bowled out with 27 balls still remaining.
It was a slow reply with Tyrone tying 1 end down & Lucius Faisal still not over a back injury. After he was caught on the deep midwicket boundary in the 2nd over, Alastair Pritchard & Peter Hollman ticked over the runs but not at the asking rate. With Tyrone off at the half way point & Pritchard, who'd earlier kept impeccably, caught, Jon Webley set about increasing then run rate as only he can until he was joined by his captain after Hollman was run out.
Somehow the asking rate stayed within 12 an over before Webley was caught by Stefan.
Rees found a usefull ally in Purcell & then Callender before new recruit James Twitchen provided cool headed support.
LF's bowling reserves were tested by Rees & 30 required off 3 overs was attained un til the target was reached with 1 ball to spare.
VIII:- Shayne Rees*, Ali Pritchard+, Jon Webley, James Twitchen, Sammy Purcell, Peter Hollman, Lucius Faisal & Matt Callender.
