Enjoyable Draw in the Late Summer Sun
Pacific v Sunbury Chieftains at Kenton Court Meadow  Sat 20-Sep-2008 at 12.30pm
Drawn

A lusty half-century from Pete Henry, one of Pacific's long history of burly Aussie allrounders, plus another tail-end cameo from countryman and Bill Murray lookalike Nick Fuller set a daunting total of 238 for home team Sunbury to chase in a rare timed game. With Sunbury bowling their overs so quickly captain Rob Bastin, stepping into the role after first team skipper Jon Webley resigned during the week, was inclined to let the team bat on until the total was perhaps higher than originally expected.

In reply, Sunbury's openers looked dangerously adept, but the North Londoners removed three of the top four withing sniffing distance of their own half-centuries to curtail any potential home vicotry, but could not make enough incursions to get the win.

Regardless, it was a glorious September dayand the cricket was enjoyed by all.

Late highlights inlcuded Luke Hollman, only 4 days after his eighth birthday, bowling out one of the oppo's youngsters with his first ball (of the last over, 37 required to win).

Leading strike swing bowler Darryl Roberts "Luke's first ball was indeed a champagne moment - what a brilliant first delivery! And I was so chuffed with my batting I didn't really care too much about my bowling. Thought Nick played a blinder with bat and ball and Ollie also bowled really well. It was such an enjoyable game."

XI:- Rob Bastin*+, Luke Hollman, Nick Fuller, Oli Haill, Peter Henry, John Hill, Darryl Roberts, Peter Hollman, Peter Alexander, Tim Ward & Jon Webley.

Before the game the quote from SC "Yes, we have a team but it's not as strong as I would wish. Go gently with us!!!"
