Pacific enjoyed a rare double winning weekend on what seemed like another perfect Autumnal day. Landmarks were reached & records threatened when the visitors first trip to this pleasant yet urban setting set up a 2nd win in consecutive days to get the month off to a winning start.
Being inserted by Sirus, the Palace Captain after winning the toss seemed exactley the right thing to do. The outfield was still heavy with dew & the ball was swinging & seaming as shown by the opening Chats' bowlers Darren & Ned, both of whom beat the bat frequently & they soon snapped up the wickets of the in form Rob Bastin & Matt Holiday (despite scoring his 1000th run for the club) to leave the Islington side on 24-2.
Darren Temperny varied everything & 1 extra quick delivery surprised not only the batsman. Soon Darren too was amongst the wickets & when Hollman came on to break a beligerent last pair, 2 balls later it was all over. The winning margin may have been great but all credit to Chats whio had given it an excellent go & played their full part in an enjoyable match perhaps rueing what might have been if Jon Webley hadn't notched up his 2nd centry of the season thereby reaching the milestone of 1000 runs for the season, & 1 of those early chances were taken.
XI:-Rob Bastin, Joe Bennett, James Gleadow, Matt Holliday, Peter Hollman, Steve Lay*, Jon Webley, Aroon Korgaonkar, Nick Fuller, Kurt Rademaker & Darren Temperny 12ths Alistair Pritchard & Phil Egan
This was the 17th scheduled match incl VPCCL games & Pacific remain unbeaten.
This was the 1st game Pacific have played at Spring Hill - a ground claimed as home by North London Asians.
Matt Holliday passed 1000 runs for the club during this innings (debut 28 May 1994).
Jon Webley passed 1000 runs for the season on reaching 97. The 1st time this has been achieved by anyone sinceDavis Murray scored 1305 in 1997.
This was Jon's 2nd 100 of 3 scored by Pacific this season & his 6th for the club & came off 78 balls which is the 11th fastest.
The partnership of 176 between Jon & Kurt Radamaker equalled the highest for the 4th wicket & is equal 7th in the full list of partnerships.
Kurt's half century was his 8th. It was the 3rd fastest 50 coming off 28 balls (jonathan Campbell's v Bayshill in 2001 was off 24).
100th appearance Rob Bastin
500th appearance Steve Lay
