Pacific v London Fields at Victoria Park Pitch 1  Tue 31-Jul-2007 at 6.30pm
Lost 4 Wickets

Another 20 runs would have made it much harder for London Fields, and probably ensured a glorius victory for Pacific. But it wasn't to be.

Some dreadfully sunny conditions and tight bowling for the first half of the innings had us on 16 for 1 off 4 overs and 36 for 2 off 8 overs, so the push required in the second half of the innings was significant. Things were looking up after Jon Webley hit an awesome (and very welcome!) 20 off Dave's 3rd over, but he was caught the next and 140-150 total looked a little too challenging from there. Unfortunately London Fields didn't drop many chances. Rees was stumped trotting down the wicket with a big swing-and-a-miss but the tail wagged a bit with Aroon and James puting on a handy 24 runs in the last 2 and bit overs. That was much to the annoyance of special guest Ian the Glaswegian ice hocky goal minder who had been taking his first ever batting practice in anticipation of cricketing glory.

Our wee weegie friend performed brilliantly behind the stumps not letting through a single bye! We looked in it for a while but unfortunately we couldn't get out London Fields opener Jason. Stiffness from an exhausting previous weekend of cricket was partially to blame for a few more runs than really necessary coming of some bowling. Alas its harder to find a scapegoat for 17 wides. We held the catches that came to us but in the end London Fields got the required 128 with an over to spare. 'Gems a bogie' as Ian the weegie would say.

So London Fields had a nice end to their VPCCL season to finish top of the division. Let's aim for the same feeling next week, lads.
