Jon Webley made east end soap headlines with a stunning bowling spell which swung the game back Pacific's way when he took 5-16 with his trademark inswing to undo the Bajan expatriate team. In the humid sticky conditions. Jon enjoyed extravagant movement as the batters struggled to cope with the reverse at pace.
Earlier Pacific had surprisngly been inserted & a steady start was constructed by Jonathan Campbell & a humstrung Lucius Faisal, batting with a runner, put on 78 before the double winning ex-Captain was bowled by Hadley. Lucius found another able partner in Jon Webley but his runner, Shayne Rees, was beginning to puff - particularly after a 3 was followed by an all run 4. Nevertheless, Hadley's 2nd victim, Lucius Faisal bowled for 37 at 94-2 became the signal for acceleration & although 3 wickets fell in the 15th over, the top order had seen their side accelerate from 79-1 off 10 to 146-5 at close. Surely a defendable total.
Despite an early breakthrough by Jonathan Campbell in his 1st spell of the year, the 2006 joint champions were in a strong position after just 7 overs having reached 68-1 & Captain Wayne playing a solid innings.
Webley's introduction from the south end changed all that as Wayne watched his partners come & go. With the introduction of left arm chinamen bowler Aroon Korgaonkar, his flight, turn & bounce was the undoing of key batter & Captain Wayne - beaten by the flight & was bowled. The game had been turned on it's head at 88-6. Just time for Webley to wrap it up & claim the 1st Pacific recorded fivefor. Jon sped quickly away on his bike citing lack of funds. An impressive win indeed.
MOTM with 33 runs off 15 balls but especially 5-16 with the ball & what must be up there with the best league returns of the season JON WEBLEY
Afterwards Captain Rees said "It was a great win. However I think that’s a harsh report: but his runner, Shayne Rees, was beginning to puff - particularly after a 3 was followed by an all run 4. What the report leaves out is that Lucius was injured in about the 2nd or 3rd over. So the “puffing runner” actually ran most of the runs scored during the match!"
