Pacific v Sunbury Chieftains at Kenton Court Meadow  Sat 22-Sep-2007 at 12.30pm
Won 4 wickets

Credit to MH for the headline. A late start due to some serious traffic delays for the cars & for the skipper who's drive to the Palace for an award for ending the run without a win was a little premature. There was no tickertape down in leafy Sunbury either - but they were pleased to see their oppo arrive nevertheless.

The home side's XI were more senior than the lythe youthful side that had smashed the visitors around in 2005. Opting to bat first, opener Andrew Price held the innings together around his unbeaten 72. A lack of batting in depth was cited as the reason for a steady rather than accelerating scoring. Due credit must also go to some solid bowling displays in particular, Smith back on top form again, Atkin - always dangerous, John Baglivi probably the most reliable bowler the club has ever had & Korgaonkar the left arm chinamen who gives the side such balance - all of which picked up a wicket apiece. Add to that another excellent fielding performance & Frank Baglivi behind the stumps was quite magnificent standing up to all but Smith.

Captain Webley was very confident of overhauling the home side's modest total. The pitch was surprisingly tinged with green & good bounce was inconsistent but he had every faith in his team of all-rounders.

.Nevertheless there were cries of frustration when Holliday & Hollman were struggling to cope with the opening bowling of leg & off spin as the total after overs 5 (6-0), 10 (15-0) indicates.

Eventually the openers did get in & the total was 73 in the 19th over when Holliday was spectacularly yorked by the imprssive medium quick Mike O'Sullivan.

More hiccups followed as Hollman was soon after caught & Webley run out but Darren Temperny made amends for running out his skipper with some big quick fire hitting bringing the target within sight before being well caught by Verranger in the deep. Atkin bowled 1 run later was another stumble & Baglivi survived a confident LBW shout but a bye in the next over had seen the honour regained with 10 overs to spare.
